All the obstacles we have encountered have taught us to think outside of the box and come up with solutions under pressure. We make this process as easier, giving you export and import advice to get what you need in a timely manner.
The importing and exporting process can be a maze to those unfamiliar with the documentation, shipping procedures and various roles involved in the movement of goods from one country to another. Even for the seasoned importer/exporter, doing it all alone can be a hassle. That’s why Global Shipping provides consulting services for our clients. Our import/export consultants have worked in every aspect of the business, and not only can we help advise importers and exporters, but we also provide customs brokerage and documentation services. A little advice can go a long way to help you get your international business up and running with fewer bumps in the road.
Roles Involved in Importing/Exporting
There are several roles involved in the export/import process, and these roles can be filled by multiple agents, or just a few players that can do it all. In addition to the importer and exporter, these roles include shipping agents, freight forwarders, customs brokers, banks, warehousing, government agencies and distribution or delivery services. These are a few of the basic entities involved (besides shipping) and their responsibilities:
- Government: You may have to deal with special government agencies besides customs in order to get the proper permissions and documentation to import or export your particular goods, such as the FDA, Department of Agriculture and others.
- Customs Broker: Deals with government customs services, prepares Accept shipping declaration Collect duties and fees, notice of permission and approval, reserve delivery with warehouse operators.
- Bank: Receives duties and taxes, issues and reviews letters of credit to guarantee payment for the goods shipped.
- Warehousing/Distribution: Once your goods arrive to their country of destination, they must be warehoused and delivered, or immediately loaded for delivery. Global Shipping has decades of experience in logistics, bonded warehousing and delivery of goods overseas.
Export/Import Documentation
Perhaps the most complex and time-consuming part of the import/export process is getting the proper documentation in order to move your goods from point A to point B. Just a few of the documents you might need include an import or export license, letter of credit, insurance certificate, bill of lading, 10+2 filing, packing list, pro forma invoice, EEI or export declaration, and certificate of origin. As mentioned above, several entities are involved in issuing and processing this documentation, and multiple requirements must be met to proceed. Having a consultant to help you complete the documentation process without delays and ensure that everything is done properly means no bureaucracy-induced headaches.
International Shipping & Delivery
Certain shipping regulations must be met depending on what type of goods you’re exporting. Additionally, you must determine the best mode of transport for your goods and the appropriate container sizes. You must also ensure that everything is properly packed to ensure that the goods are secure and stay intact. It is normally the responsibility of the exporter to supply proper instructions for the handling of goods in the country of origin as well as overseas. We can advise you on the best way to ship and distribute your goods so that they arrive to their destination securely, on time, and in optimum condition.

Project & Heavy Lift Cargo
If you have complicated or heavy equipment to transport, Instant Shipping Liners will rise to the challenge. Our Project Department employees have more than twenty years of experience handling project cargo but still maintain their youthful and eager attitudes. We thrive under pressure and have handled many high-value, transportation projects on tight deadlines.
Whether you need a turnkey services provider who will supervise your project from start to finish or a partner who will manage one challenging segment of your transportation project, Instant Shipping Liners can help.
Our Project Cargo Specialties Include:
- Out of Gauge: Instant Shipping Liners specializes in the shipping and handling of oversized or irregularly shaped cargo. Our expert team has the experience and tools to transport your most challenging cargo, even when it’s too large to fit within a standard shipping container’s length, width or height. Worrying about the safety and on time delivery of your cargo will be the last thing on your mind with our out of gauge shipping solutions.
- Heavy Lift:When you have large items that can’t be broken down into smaller, lighter-weight segments, Instant Shipping Liners will come up with a transport solution. We even have experience moving products that are too heavy to transport on roads. Whether your cargo requires flatbed trucks, special volume cargo aircrafts, or even inland barges, we’ve got you covered.
- Break Bulk: Due to their large size or weight, some goods need to be loaded onto a cargo ship or aircraft individually rather than grouped in shipping containers. This obviously makes loading and unloading the equipment more labor-intensive and potentially more costly. However, we can come up with an efficient and cost-effective break bulk shipping method. We can help you determine when this is a better choice than disassembling, packaging, and reassembling your cargo when it reaches its destination.
- Flat Racks & Open Tops:When necessary, we will load your cargo into flat rack or open top containers. In some cases, we may shrink-wrap the cargo or add an additional layer of protection so that it reaches its destination with no damaged or missing parts.
- Rigging: Heavy equipment projects sometimes require cranes or pulley systems to lift the cargo, and Instant Shipping Liners can source the equipment necessary to safely raise and lower large items from one surface to another.
- Import & Export:If you need to transport your cargo internationally, you can count on us to work out the logistics, including the customs clearance requirements, and to get your heavy haul products to their destination on time.
- Inland, Port Works, Ocean Freight, & Air Freight Forwarding:Through our strong professional relationships with major airlines and shipping lines, Instant Shipping Liners is able to get your project cargo where it needs to go using whatever method of transportation necessary.
We’ve Shipped Some of the Most Challenging Projects:
Through our years of experience in the heavy transport industry, we have encountered and overcome many unique challenges. One client needed us to transport natural gas compressors and coolers from a remote part of south Texas to Mumbai, India on a tight deadline. We worked with local partners to lift the cargo using oilfield winches, allowing us to significantly reduce the time it would have taken to bring in cranes. After moving the coolers and compressors to the Port of Houston on transport trailers, we carefully shrink-wrapped the cargo to protect it on its ocean voyage. The cargo reached its final destination four days after we first picked it up in Sweeny, Texas.
Another client tasked us with transporting military helicopters from Jordan to Alabama in just 24 days. Because the helicopters were so high-value, we didn’t want to leave them sitting in the port for any longer than necessary, so we sourced a roll-on roll-off ship and outfitted the helicopters with special wheels and tow bars to load them. Due to inclement weather, we ultimately had to reroute the ship from Jacksonville, Florida to Beaumont, Texas, where we brought in trucks to move the helicopters to Alabama. Despite the obstacles we encountered, we reached the principal three days before the deadline.
